How to Help
Volunteer

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society owes its existence to a group of volunteers who back in 1964 saw the need for providing support to people with MS. Over the past year our volunteers have contributed in excess of 1,700 hours to the MS Society.

Volunteers enable us to go above and beyond, and we would not be able to deliver the current level of services and support if we did not have a team of dedicated volunteers.

Why should you volunteer?

While the MS Society benefits greatly from the contribution of our volunteers, there are significant personal benefits to those individuals who make up our volunteer worker program. These benefits include;

  • Personal satisfaction of making a positive contribution to the community in general and to people living with MS and their support teams in particular;
  • A sense of being valued;
  • Learning new skills;
  • Meeting new people.

Our volunteers are currently involved in a range of activities, including;

  • Special project work;
  • Administration;
  • Badge Day; assisting at MS events such as musicals and quiz nights;
  • Delivering equipment;
  • Public speaking and promotion;
  • Internet research.

The MS Society has an urgent need for volunteers with qualifications or experience in the following areas;

  • Financial counselling;
  • Legal advice;
  • Assisting with Quality Assurance.

MS Badge Day 2010
11th to 18th June

We are requesting your valued assistance with one of the MS Society’s most important fundraising events – our annual MS Badge Day.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of a ‘Badge Day’, this is the day when volunteers across the state give up a couple of hours of their time to stand with a collection tin at a local shopping centre or precinct.

Unfortunately our volunteer numbers for this day are decreasing, so I would like to ask you to very carefully consider whether you might be able to help us. As little as an hour of your time spent at your local shopping centre would be incredibly helpful (we organise permission from the relevant centre and supply you with everything you need to take part in the event).

Businesses
We are also looking for businesses which would be interested in supporting the MS Society by having collection tins at your workplace for Badge Day or for the month of June – MS Awareness month. An example of how you can help is by having a casual day, collection tins on your reception/retail counter, raffle and there are so many other possibilities where you can help.

Our 2010 MS Badge Day will be happening on Friday 11th June in Rundle Mall and Friday 18th June, 2010 in specific metro and some country areas. If you are able to help then could you please fill in the application form and forward back to us by fax on 8396 0184 or email to mwilliams@ms.asn.au  to let us know your availability.

We would really value and appreciate your assistance and we look forward to hearing from you!

Volunteers assist us in providing services to people living with MS and their families.
