Latest Research

The MS Societies across Australia have worked together informally for many years, pooling the money they raise for research. The first Australian medical research grant for MS was in Sydney in 1963.

In 2002 moves were made to increase the amount of money going into research to find the cause of MS, to look at ways of preventing and better treating MS, and ultimately find a cure. This led to the establishing of MS Research Australia (MSRA) in 2004.

Visit the MSRA website at http://www.msra.org.au/ to find out more about the specific research projects being undertaken on a national level.

CCSVI - MS Research Australia Statement

A study conducted in Italy in 2009 has introduced a possible connection between MS and CCSVI (impaired drainage in the brain and spinal cord). The issue of CCSVI, and whether it has any relationship to the cause or treatment of multiple sclerosis has been the focus of significant attention throughout the world since then. – click here for more details or here for answers to common questions.
