What we do - Client Services
Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapists are concerned with the management of the physical implications of MS.

The physiotherapist plays an important role in the assessment and management of symptoms such as spasticity (including stiffness and spasms), pain, weakness, poor coordination, fatigue and walking/balance issues. Physiotherapy intervention also aims to prevent secondary issues such as weakness due to inactivity, contractures, pain and musculoskeletal complications.

The following services are provided by the Physiotherapy Department at the MS Society:

  • Neurological assessments
  • Rehabilitation, including blocks of therapy after relapse
  • Treatment for pain or musculoskeletal problems related to MS
  • Home and water exercise advice and programs
  • Mobility equipment prescription
  • Hydrotherapy and water exercises (held at MS Society, Klemzig)
  • Exercise sessions utilising motorised exercise pedals and whole body vibration therapy
  • General exercise classes
  • Education and information provision for clients, families, carers and health professionals
  • Home visits and outreach trips
