Theravital program

The Theravital is a motorised cycling machine that allows clients with reduced leg function to pedal as if using an exercise bike. The Theravital is used whilst in a seated position, usually from the client’s own wheelchair. Sessions are supervised as assistance is often required for set up. The Theravital can be used both “passively” and “actively” depending on the client’s level of ability. It can help reduce spasm and tightness in the legs, maintain joint and muscle flexibility and build up leg strength.

Sessions are supervised and cost $3 each. A smaller, portable version of the Theravital is the TheraTrainer which can be hired from the MS Society for $20 for a period of 4 weeks.

Session times – weekly set times as negotiated with MS Society.

VibroGym

The VibroGym is a machine using whole body vibration therapy to exercise and strengthen muscles in a reduced amount of time. Participants exercise on a vibrating plate which results in enhanced muscle contraction. The VibroGym can assist in improving strength, muscle flexibility and reduce fatigue and pain.

Sessions are supervised and cost $3 each. Session times – weekly set times as negotiated with MS Society.

Home Exercise Program

Home exercise programs can be prescribed by the physiotherapist to target specific areas such as mobility, strength, balance, flexibility and fitness. Home exercises can be tailored to each individual to suit their level of ability. Home exercises may be equipment free or involve the use of exercise balls, elastic resistance bands or light weights. Carers and/or family members can also be trained to assist with home exercise programs.

Rest & Recharge

Coming soon to the MS Society - “Rest & Recharge” training sessions! Over a period of 4 weeks learn and practice various rest and relaxation techniques to help “recharge the batteries”, minimise fatigue and deal with stress. The aim of these practical sessions is to learn what technique works best for you and how to incorporate them into your everyday life.

Session times – to be confirmed
