Hello

My name is Mitchell, I am 12 years old and this is my story.

One day last year my mum woke up and she could not see properly and could not hear me talking in one of her ears. For a long time we did not know what was wrong, it was very scary and I felt sad. I didn’t like seeing mum sick and not being able to do all things she used to do. After many doctors’ visits and lots of tests my mum and dad told me that she had Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I didn’t know what that was, but I knew my mum was sick.

For us this meant that she had to have needles three times a week, and my mum doesn’t like needles. I don’t like watching my mum using the needles but I know that they are helping her so she can see and hear us properly.

I wanted to help my mum so I joined the MS Readathon, and although I don’t really like reading books, I read them for my mum. I was the highest fundraiser in South Australia and I raised $3,226!

“I read for my mum as she has MS and this is how I can help her”

I know my mum is proud of me but there are many other mums, dads, sisters and even kids that need help as well. The MS Society has helped us heaps by having nurses talk to us about the needles and medicines my mum needs, and about the future. My mum is feeling a bit better now and I think that I have helped a little.

Thank you for reading my story.
