NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission rolls out in SA

4th July 2018

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has now rolled out in South Australia from 1 July. But what does this mean for you?

In a nutshell, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will make sure you have access to high quality and safe NDIS services and supports. They will help all NDIS participants, families and carers who are feeling unsafe or unhappy with their services. This will also be the place to provide feedback or complaints about your services.

The commission will put in place the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework. This will guide NDIS service providers on how to provide good quality services and keep NDIS participants safe. This will also manage the standard of behaviour expected from NDIS service providers.

Since the rollout of the NDIS began, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has been responsible for managing NDIS providers. This will now be in the hands of the commission in SA and nationwide as it rolls out across the country.

This means the NDIA will focus on delivering the NDIS and providing each participant with personalised plans and support. They will take complaints about the things that they do, including NDIS plans. All other complaints about supports and services will now go to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

As a registered NDIS service provider the MS Society SA/NT understands the importance of having a clear point of contact for people with disability to report incidents, and resolve any issues. These guidelines provided by the NDIS commission will ensure we are providing every person with MS with the best possible services and care.

Those in the Northern Territory can expect the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to rollout in their area from 1 July 2019. In the meantime, the NDIA's current requirements for quality and safeguards will apply.

Our NDIS team is always happy to talk to you about your NDIS plan and how we can help you achieve your goals. Contact the MS Society NDIS team through MS Assist on 1800 812 311 or at msassist@ms.asn.au.
